A Day of Discoveries
A fun-filled afternoon of discovery for all ages exploring the Festival's twin themes of biodiversity and the Portuguese-speaking world, including a very special one-off showcase of Lisbon-based talent from around the Lusophone world.

On the bandstand:

12.00 – 12.40pm
TutinMick’s
Bass player Tutin D’Giralda and percussionist Mick Trovoada present a unique approach to traditional Cape Verdean songs, influenced by reggae, funk, blues and jazz, and branded with their own musical personality.

1.20 – 2.00pm
Tonecas
Known as the troubadour of the African island of São Tomé and Príncipe, Tonecas performs his own compositions based on the traditional music of his homeland. The frenetic pace of his guitar and the strength of his voice creates a sound that invites you to dance.

2.40 – 3.20pm

Aló Irmao: Manecas Costa and Fran Pérez

Aló Irmao unites the solo talents of one of Guinea-Bissau’s most famous musicians, Manecas Costa, and award-winning Galician singer songwriter Fran Pérez.

4.00 – 4.40pm
Sons da Gente
Portuguese quintet Sons da Gente draw inspiration from the culture and history of their country’s recent past, in particular the work of iconic musician and poet José Afonso with original compositions that express the passion and beauty of Portugal.

5.20 – 6.00pm
Lindu Mona
Firmly rooted in the sounds and rhythms of their native Angola Lindu Mona are one of the most important world music names in Portugal, encompassing a wide range of influences from jazz, reggae and African roots.

On the hill:
Throughout the afternoon, ecologically themed activities give the chance to roll up your sleeves and try your hand at something a little different. To include:

Nu Urban Gardeners: miniature allotments
Artists Chris Lewis-Jones and Simon Withers invite you to create your very own Hopeful Habitat in miniature, be it true to life or fantastically surreal. Certificates will be awarded throughout the afternoon!

Willow sculpture
Drop in to workshops with artist Sara Holmes and create your own willow sculpture to take away.

Hampstead Heath Education Team
Join the Heathlife Education team for eco-teering and interactive bee activities as well as harnessed tree climbing provided by Heath Rangers.

The Golden Company
The Golden Company is a social enterprise that provides training to young people in a variety of skills including urban beekeeping, natural cosmetics making and sustainable enterprise. Visit their stall and get up close to a beehive, try on a beekeepers outfit, taste some delicious local honey or perhaps have your face painted like a bee.

Pif-Paf: Honey Cart
Pif-Paf take us on a journey into the world of the bee and their relationship with mankind. Join them for interactive performances.

Plus the chance to meet C. Mestre Rodrigo for workshops in capoeira, and enjoy a traditional Portuguese dance performance from Cultural.
