Procession finale - Adriano Adewale & Umpatacum - Friday 25 June
Time: 13:30
Adriano Adewale & Umpatacum
Brazilian percussionist extraordinaire Adriano Adewale, accompanied by a select group of London’s finest musicians, brings the Procession to a celebratory climax on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral creating a carnival atmosphere worthy of the streets of Rio.
Following his research into the connections between African music and its direct relationship to Afro-Brazilian music, Adriano Adewale formed Umpatacum, an eight-piece band which performs both traditional and original tunes from and inspired by Afro-Brazilian musical traditions, including styles like Coco, Jongo and Baiao as well as the more well known Samba.
Respecting the legacy of such strong musical traditions Umpatacum mix contemporary and traditional elements to create a vibrant, up-tempo and dynamic performance. With Alba Cabral, Leandra Varanda and Rebeca Valim (voice); Matheus Nova (bass); Netto Pio (guitar) and Ulisses Silva, Lucas Amorim and Adriano Adewale (percussion).
