Charles Bean is Deputy Governor for Monetary Policy at the Bank of England. Prior to that, he was Executive Director and Chief Economist at the Bank and Professor of Economics and Head of Department at the London School of Economics (until September 2000). He has served in a variety of other public policy roles, including as consultant to HM Treasury and as special adviser to economic affairs committees of the Houses of Commons, Lords and European Parliament. He is a lover of opera and cricket.
