It is a fascinating fact that Chopin chose to give his last ever public performance in Guildhall. This concert is not only a celebration of Chopin’s 200th anniversary but also marks the UK debut of this exciting new orchestra from Portugal. The distinguished Brazilian pianist, Cristina Ortiz, is soloist in Chopin’s best-loved works, the Piano Concerto No 2, of which she is a noted interpreter. The programme also includes Beethoven’s Symphony No 1 and a pair of short, evocative pieces by two of Portugal’s leading composers. Conducted by Pedro Carneiro.
