Besides a new work by Stuart MacRae, one of the finest young composing talents around, these two players also perform the rare cello-and-piano version of César Franck’s sumptuously romantic Violin Sonata. In between comes a choice of pieces from Messiaen’s gigantic cycle Vingt Regards sur l’Enfant-Jésus, one of the great virtuoso peaks of 20th-century piano music.
