HENK NEVEN had been awarded the Netherlands Music Prize 2010, the highest distinction awarded to musicians in the Netherlands. He will be performing at this year's City of London Festival on Monday 5 July. For more information, please click here.
This prestigious prize is awarded by the Dutch Ministry of Culture who audition a number of promising candidates for entry to their two-year training programme, which nurtures and develops the chosen musicians through a series of international music coaching and master classes. On completion of the scheme and after a highly competitive selection process, the coveted prize is then awarded to the candidate who has achieved and thrived the most during the programme.
Previous prize-winners have included musicians such as Ronald Brautigam, Janine Jansen and Pieter Wispelwey and we are thrilled that Henk's achievements have been recognised as part of this rich musical heritage.
Neven trained at the Conservatory of Amsterdam New Opera Academy. He was awarded a Borletti-Buitoni Fellowship in 2009 and is a member of the prestigious Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme.
Passionate about Lieder and oratorio, Neven has worked with major orchestras such as the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the Staatskapelle Berlin, the Wiener Symphoniker, and with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Edo de Waart, Jaap van Zweden, Armin Jordan, John Nelson, Christophe Rousset, Ingo Metzmacher and Ulf Schirmer. On the opera stage he has appeared throughout Europe including at the Berliner Staatsoper, at the Opéra National de Paris, La Monnaie, the Netherlands Opera and he is currently making his debut at the Theater an der Wien under Bertrand de Billy.
Neven who is being compared to a young Gerry Finley will be giving recitals this summer at the Cheltenham Festival, City of London Festival and the BBC Proms. He will also be performing with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under Sir Simon Rattle.
