Paternoster Square
Pater noster in Latin means ‘Our Father’ in English and so Paternoster Square is an ancient space, rendered sacred by association. In the history of London it will be forever connected with Paternoster Row, a street that has its origins in medieval times when the clergy of St Paul’s use to walk in procession, reciting the Paternoster prayer. It was long the site of a livestock market, a history which inspired Dame Elisabeth Frink’s modern bronze sculpture Shepherd and Sheep which is located in the Square. Among its present day tenants is the London Stock Exchange.
